There are three slots for Selectboard.  Two for the regular 3-yr term and one for a 2-yr term to fill a vacant position.

Candidates for the 1-yr term: Matt Peltier and Laura Hopkinson.  The listings below are in the order received to TTG.

Matt Peltier

My name is Matthew Peltier, and I am running for the one-year Selectboard member term.

I was born and raised in NH. I lived in Lincoln and moved to Thornton when I was 19 years old. At the age of 21 I joined the military, serving all over the world including Iraq, Afghanistan, and Africa in support of operations against terrorism. After the military I contracted as an investigative consultant for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, dealing with Amber Alerts, human trafficking, and missing children investigations across the United States. I also use a technology called LiDAR to search for and find potential clandestine graves relating to these investigations.

Recently, I was appointed as the Emergency Management Director for the town of Thornton and recently dealt with the flooding from the December storm. At the request of several town residents, I was asked to seek the appointment for the vacant Selectboard seat. After meeting with board members, I was appointed to fill the vacancy until the March 12th election at which time I agreed to run to fill the remaining year left on the term.

My ties to the town go back to when Great Grandmother immigrated from Sweden and settled in Thornton in the mid to late 1920s. She purchased land on what is now Anderson Hill Rd, the same neighborhood I call home, and set up two small businesses, a horse riding stable and gemology shop. My family has resided on the “Hill” since and we have no plans on leaving.

As a Selectboard member my goal is to create and maintain a cohesive team to represent the residents of Thornton’s better interests. To do that the Selectboard must conservatively budget town expenses, plan accordingly for future situations, and ensure Thornton grows according to the wishes of the town’s residents.

I would appreciate your support so we can make the community of Thornton thrive together!

Laura Hopkinson – Nothing has been received by her yet.

These people are running for the full 3-yr term for Selectboard.  Marianne Peabody and Peter Laufenberg.  Their entries are listed in order received by TTG.

Marianne Peabody

Thornton Voters – My name is Marianne Peabody, and I am running for a seat on the Thornton Board of Selectmen.  For voters who do not know me, I moved to Thornton from Massachusetts in 1979 when there were 433 registered voters on our checklist.  In 1982 I was asked if I would be interested in running for the Town’s Welfare Officer Position after elected to that position the Board of Selectmen appointed me Health Officer.  I continue to hold these positions today.

In March of 1984 my late husband Clinton Peabody served (3) terms as a member of the Board of Selectmen.

Thornton was without a town hall at the time and all town officials worked from their homes in fact our Fire Department was privately owned and we tossed our trash in a whole at the dump.

During my years serving Thornton I worked full time at our new town hall. For those who do not know.  Our Town Hall is named:  “The Jenny Robbins Memorial Building. “ It’s named after the Mother of a longtime resident and Selectman, Kenneth Robbins.

Working at the town hall I held the positions of Planning and Zoning Secretary, Assistant to the Administrator, Deputy Town Clerk and Assessing Clerk until my retirement in 2012 when I ran for a seat on our select board.

I’ve watched and experienced the peaks and valleys associated with Thornton’s growth.  While taking comfort serving the people the best way I knew how.  There are change ahead of us. It may be associated with our mandated (5) year revaluation of properties.  This revaluation may bring valleys for some property owners.  Our new assessments will be based on recent sales.

If elected to another (3) year term. I shall keep a watchful eye on our expenditures, while at the same time allowing Thornton to continue to prosper.

We’ve come a long way, with your support, I will continue to be a source and inspiration for Thornton’s future.

Thank you for your continued support. It is very much appreciated.

Respectfully,

Marianne
