How many administrators does the Town of Thornton, NH Have? How many registered voters? How many Households are taxed by the town. Are business, such as Bed and Breakfasts and Air B & B’s taxed higher than regular homes? Please advise.
Thank you.
– How many administrators? I don’t know but the annual report has a list of all town employees and their compensation.
– We have 2050 registered voters as of the election last week
– All property is taxed at the same rate and the town has no idea how many homes are available on AirBNB but you can check their site and search for Thornton.
– All property assessments are available at https://data.avitarassociates.com/logon.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2fdefault.ASPX and you can log on as a Guest and see all property taxes.
The Town is having a public hearing prior to the town meeting on Feb 7th. The actual Town Meeting is on March 16, Saturday, at 10 am. I would urge all the citizens to attend the public hearing on Feb 7th and give your comments and concerns to the town for their preliminary budget at that meeting. Wednesday at 6 pm.
Last year the Town’s budget went up by 15 to 17%. I urge the voters to take an interest in the Town Budget. The selectmen also notified the Town Meeting that they had $350,000 overage from the prior year. Last year’s budget was set at: $4,237,039. OVER 4 Million Dollars. Not sure how many voters are in Thornton, but this is a huge budget for a small town. So, for myself, I am not so sure that the Town is doing such a good job on the budget. The prior year was at $3,622,899.98, so you can see it was a very big increase for 23 over 22. It is difficult to do anything to change the Town’s Budget at the Annual Town meeting unless a lot of citizens are concerned enough to attend the meeting to change it. What happens is the Town of Thornton is the LARGEST employer in Town, and the Town employees turn out to the annual meeting to vote everything through. So, if any of you out there are concerned, your input at both the Preliminary Budget meeting on February 7th and the Annual Meeting us urgent. Thank you.
The BOS have “bought down” our tax rate for the last few years. The amount of our taxes for town operations is LESS this year than last. See the home page and you can see the breakdown.
The last School Board meeting is on Wednesday Feb 7th at 5:15 pm. Yes, it is the same date as the Town Proposed Budget Draft Meeting. WHY is this the case? The School Board and the Town should be more coordinated to set their meeting times on different days so that those citizens/voters of the Town of Thornton who would want to attend these meetings do not have to choose one or the other and could go to both Extremely discouraging
