Thornton Voters – My name is Marianne Peabody, and I am running for a seat on the Thornton Board of Selectmen.  For voters who do not know me, I moved to Thornton from Massachusetts in 1979 when there were 433 registered voters on our checklist.  In 1982 I was asked if I would be interested in running for the Town’s Welfare Officer Position after elected to that position the Board of Selectmen appointed me Health Officer.  I continue to hold these positions today.

In March of 1984 my late husband Clinton Peabody served (3) terms as a member of the Board of Selectmen.

Thornton was without a town hall at the time and all town officials worked from their homes in fact our Fire Department was privately owned and we tossed our trash in a whole at the dump.

During my years serving Thornton I worked full time at our new town hall. For those who do not know.  Our Town Hall is named:  “The Jenny Robbins Memorial Building. “ It’s named after the Mother of a longtime resident and Selectman, Kenneth Robbins.

Working at the town hall I held the positions of Planning and Zoning Secretary, Assistant to the Administrator, Deputy Town Clerk and Assessing Clerk until my retirement in 2012 when I ran for a seat on our select board.

I’ve watched and experienced the peaks and valleys associated with Thornton’s growth.  While taking comfort serving the people the best way I knew how.  There are change ahead of us. It may be associated with our mandated (5) year revaluation of properties.  This revaluation may bring valleys for some property owners.  Our new assessments will be based on recent sales.

If elected to another (3) year term. I shall keep a watchful eye on our expenditures, while at the same time allowing Thornton to continue to prosper.

We’ve come a long way, with your support, I will continue to be a source and inspiration for Thornton’s future.

Thank you for your continued support. It is very much appreciated.

Respectfully,

Marianne
